So as time goes on, the trio all becomes really good friends. Charlie was taken to a house party for the first time ever, as shown in the picture to the right. Everyone toasted to him and it turned out to be a great night full of lots of new experiences. This causes one of Sam's friends, Mary Elizabeth, to see Charlie differently, so she asks him out.

As Charlie and Mary Elizabeth start to go out more, he realizes that he doesn't feel the same way. He finds her slightly overwhelming and still has a huge thing for Sam. One night at a party, during a game of Truth or Dare, Charlie is dared to kiss whoever he thinks is the prettiest girl in the room. Everyone expects this to be Mary Elizabeth since they're dating, but he chooses Sam instead. Of course this causes a problem, along with rouses of jealousy and tension. So until it all dies down, he is told to stay clear of everyone and not hang around the group. Since Charlie no longer has friends, this causes his happiness to go away and for his emotional distress and flashbacks to come back, which get worse as time goes on.
